Woodledge Club was founded in 1962. The large yet topically diverse property was previously owned by area builders who were developing the land. In total, there were 19+ acres that were determined to be unsuitable for home building due to the significant amount of buried and exposed ledge throughout. The builders along with local South Glastonbury residents sought inspiration from another pool club within an adjacent neighborhood.
The founding families became organized and submitted a plan for a pool in the woods of South Glastonbury on January 8th, 1962. Between 1963-1977 the Main Pool, the bath house, pump house, wading pool, parking lot, road and three Har Tru tennis courts were built. Another significant addition came in 1977, with the addition of three hard tennis courts. To build these tennis courts, ledge was blasted away, and an access road on the far side of the club (in the woods) was created. Finally, in 1982 the Woodledge Pavilion was approved and then built. Woodledge has since added additional amenities including swings, play set, basketball courts, walkways, picnic areas, and a second parking lot.
